Do We Get Wiser With Age?

“I have this thing where I get older but just never wiser” – Taylor Swift

Another trip around the sun, another birthday candle to blow out, another present. Whatever age you are turning, what have you learned over the past year? Many will say it is only our negative experiences that teach us lessons and create wisdom. What about the positive experiences? Have they taught you anything? This also depends on your definition of what wisdom actually is. Most importantly, most people don’t want to feel as if they are stagnant over the years. They want to feel as if they can take some form of a measuring stick and say “ok, this is where I started, and this is where I am now.” Taylor was on to something when she wrote anti-hero. She echoed the sentiments of many of us who felt we were growing in number but not in mind. Personal growth can sometimes be difficult if done in a vacuum and can often be facilitated with a therapist who can validate your progress. Please reach out if you’d like to work on your personal growth. I look forward to working with you!
